The Case
On an otherwise normal afternoon in Portland Oregon a man in a black suit, appearing to be in his mid forties, calling himself Dan Cooper walked up to the counter at Northwest Orient Airlines. Using cash, he purchased a ticket for a flight bound for Seattle, Washington, flight #305. While waiting for the plane to take of Cooper made an order of bourbon and a soda. At around 3:00 Cooper handed a stewardess a note stating that he had a bomb in his briefcase and wished for her to sit with him.
The stewardess complied and after confirming that the passenger did have a bomb, the stewardess agreed to bring his message to the captain of the plane. His message was a demand, four parachutes and $200,000 in cash. After landing in Seattle, Cooper exchanged the 36 other passengers for the money and parachutes. Keeping several crew members on board, Cooper ordered the plane to set course for Mexico City. Somewhere between Seattle and Reno, the hijacker would jump from the plane with the money and parachutes, never to be seen again.
